Raphael Lemkin Center for Documenting Russian Crimes in Ukraine Events - Instytut Pileckiego

The Lemkin Center is constantly expanding the range of measures used to disseminate accounts, including by becoming a basis for artistic activities. A performative reading titled “War and Memory” was organized using selected surveys. For the film “Teneta” and the installation “Shards of Unjudged Crimes,” in addition to the collected accounts, amateur photographs and videos recorded by witnesses were also used. The documentary “HerSons,” which tells the story of illegal arrests, torture, and deportations of civilians to Russia, features video interviews with the mothers, wives, and sisters of unlawfully detained men. In turn, the theatrical play “The Liberated” juxtaposes accounts of Ukrainian victims with testimonies of soldiers from Anders’ Army and the civilian victims of Soviet totalitarianism. Stories reflecting the horror of the current war – torture, bombing, “accidental” death as a result of shelling – intertwined with stories about deportations, labor camps, and NKVD prisons, reveal the analogy between the Polish and Ukrainian experiences.

If we consider the collected testimonies to be the voice of Ukraine, then all the activities of the Lemkin Center serve to ensure that this voice is heard, preserved, disseminated, understood, and above all, not silenced.
