Wacław Budziszewski - Instytut Pileckiego
Wacław Budziszewski was commemorated by the Pilecki Institute on 22 September 2019 in Nur.
He lived with his mother Stanisława and father Henryk in the village of Żebry-Laskowiec, in the district of Ostrów Mazowiecka. He had two brothers: Stanisław and Konstanty. His parents had a farm. During the German occupation, two months after Konstanty was born, the family offered their barn as a hideout to their Jewish friends – a married couple with two adolescent sons. Wacław was 18 at the time. Two weeks later, German gendarmes and Gestapo men arrived at the Budziszewskis’ farm. They discovered the hideout of the Jewish family. Both Jewish boys were shot during an attempted escape. All members of the Budziszewski family were questioned, but the Germans failed to extract any statements that would “justify” imposition of punishment. Then Wacław, hoping to draw attention from his parents and thus save them, took all the blame. He confessed that he had brought the Jews the previous evening but hadn’t told anyone yet due to lack of time. He was arrested and transported to Białystok, from where on 27 February 1943 he was taken to KL Stutthof, where he survived 33 days. He died on 1 April 1943.
