Pilecki Institute International Teachers and Educators Program 5th edition. Post-war decade. | Call for participants
Recruitment for the fifth edition of the Pilecki Institute International Teachers and Educators Program has begun. We invite teachers and educators from around the world to participate in the online conference. This year, we are focusing on the history of the post-war decade from 1945 to 1955.
A decade that shaped the modern world
From Stettin in the Baltic to Trieste in the Adriatic, an iron curtain has descended across the continent – March this year marks 80 years since Winston Churchill delivered his famous speech symbolizing the beginning of the Cold War. The post-war decade was a time of the reconstruction of destroyed countries, but also of growing rivalry between the Eastern and Western blocs. It was a period when a new international order was shaped, European integration and NATO were born, and Central and Eastern European countries were subjected to Sovietisation. It was also the beginning of decolonization processes and profound social change. The decisions made in the post-war decade have largely shaped the modern world and influenced its borders, alliances, and tensions. The consequences of the events of 1945–1955 are still felt today. The conference will take as its starting point the fascinating history of Poland and its experience in confronting both German Nazism and Soviet communism.
