An interview with Danielle Vella | Witold Pilecki International Book Award

Danielle Vella is the author of "Dying to Live. Stories from Refugees on the Road to Freedom", nominated from the Witold Pilecki International Book Award in the 3rd category for contemporary war correspondents. Listen to what she has to say!

Syria, Eritrea, Libya, South Sudan - these are only some of the countries of origin of the refugees who are the protagonists of Danielle Vella's book. They usually flee from war, political repression, or religious persecution. In the book, we find not only descriptions of their journeys that begin with escaping dangerous, often chaotic homelands. The author places the fate of refugees in a broader context of difficult questions about the assumptions of migration policy in the countries of the rich North. All this aAt a time of such problems as the destabilization of the Middle East and the persecution of various groups in many African and Asian countries.

Danielle Vella has worked at the Jesuit Refugee Service for many years. She is a refugee specialist and journalist. She has previously worked with Vatican Radio and "The Tablet," among others. She is the author of several books, including "Journeys of Hope. Stories of refugees on the way to Europe."
