Competition for the position of Manager of the Extraneous Branch of the Witold Pilecki Institute of Solidarity and Valor in Berlin
The Director of the Witold Pilecki Institute of Solidarity and Valor in Warsaw announces a competition for the position of Manager of the Extraneous Branch of the Witold Pilecki Institute of Solidarity and Valor in Berlin
the position of manager may be applied for by a person who meets the following criteria:
- Necessary requirements
- possesses Polish citizenship,
- possesses a university education,
- enjoys full public rights,
- has at least 10 years of job seniority and a minimum of 3 years of work experience in a managerial position, including experience in managing human teams in the field of cultural and scholarly institutions,
- has experience in leading and supervising scholarly, cultural, educational and popularization projects concerning 20th-century history,
- has a knowledge of issues from the field of Polish-German and international relations, and their history in the 20th century,
- has experience and recognized achievements of an expert nature in the fields of public history, cultural diplomacy, politics of memory, and culture of memory,
- has experience in representing a Polish institution abroad or in cooperation with foreign scholarly, cultural or administrative institutions,
- is fluent in both spoken and written Polish, English and German,
- has not been lawfully sentenced for an intentional offense or an intentional tax offense,
- has not been punished with a prohibition on performing functions related to the disposition of public funds, referred to in Article 31, Subparagraph 1, Point 4 of the Act of 17 December 2004 on liability for the violation of public financial discipline (Journal of Laws of 2004, Item 104 with subsequent amendments).
- Desired requirements
- holds an academic degree or an academic title,
- is knowledgeable about or possesses experience in German law, especially labor law, and German public procurement law,
- has an education in the field of human resources management.
- Candidates are required to submit the following documents and statements:
- a descriptive study concerning the concept and strategy for the operation and development of the Extraneous Branch of the Witold Pilecki Institute of Solidarity and Valor in Berlin, this for a period of 3 years and in accordance with the statute of the Witold Pilecki Institute of Solidarity and Valor, on the basis of the informational materials made available that concern the legal, organizational and economic status of the Institute and in relation to the Mission of the Institute, which constitutes Attachment No. 1 to this announcement,
- a list of achievements of an expert nature, in particular within the field of the statutory activities of the Institute, including issues of public history, cultural diplomacy, politics of memory, and culture of memory,
- a personal questionnaire containing contact information,
- a résumé with a description of the course of their professional career to date, bearing their own handwritten signature,
- a cover letter,
- a copy of their university graduation diploma or, in the event of graduation from a foreign university, a copy of a diploma equivalent to a Polish university graduation diploma,
- copies of documents confirming 3 years of experience in human resources management, or a statement to that effect,
- copies of documents confirming professional experience or job seniority, i.e. employment certificates, certificates confirming job seniority, etc.,
- copies of documents confirming fluency in Polish, English and German, or statements as to fluency therein,
- a declaration on the provision of consent to the processing of personal data (together with an informational clause), which constitutes Attachment No. 2 to this announcement,
- a statement as to the possession of Polish citizenship,
- a statement as to the enjoyment of full public rights,
- a statement that they have not been lawfully sentenced for an intentional offense or an intentional tax offense,
- a statement that they have not been punished with a prohibition on performing functions related to the disposition of public funds, referred to in Article 31, Subparagraph 1, Point 4 of the Act of 17 December 2004 on liability for the violation of public financial discipline (Journal of Laws of 2004, Item 104 with subsequent amendments).

- Candidates may submit additional documents and statements:
• copies of documents confirming the possession of competences and skills required to occupy a managerial position,
- copies of documents confirming fluency in languages other than those required, or statements as to fluency therein,
- a copy of a diploma confirming award of an academic degree or of a document confirming bestowal of an academic title, or, if an academic degree was awarded at a foreign university, a copy of a diploma equivalent to the corresponding Polish diploma,
- letters of recommendation (not more than 5).
- Criteria for evaluating the aptitude and skills of candidates:
- analysis of applications received in terms of completeness of the documentation submitted,
- evaluation of applications received in terms of fulfillment of the necessary requirements set forward in the announcement, and also of any desired requirements,
- evaluation of the written study on the concept and strategy for the operation and development of the Extraneous Branch of the Witold Pilecki Institute of Solidarity and Valor in Berlin in relation to the Mission of the Witold Pilecki Institute of Solidarity and Valor,
- interviews with candidates selected by the Committee, which shall include a test of the knowledge required for the position, and an assessment of personal aptitude and managerial skills.
- Candidate applications containing all of the documents and statements enumerated under Point III hereabove are to be submitted by the non-extendible deadline of 29.10.2025 in one of the following ways:
- delivered in a sealed envelope marked “Konkurs na stanowisko Kierownika Oddziału Zamiejscowego Instytutu Solidarności i Męstwa im. Witolda Pileckiego w Berlinie” (“Competition for the position of Manager of the Extraneous Branch of the Witold Pilecki Institute of Solidarity and Valor in Berlin”) to the seat of the Pilecki Institute in Warsaw, 82 Sienna Street – by 5.00 p.m., first floor (the reception area of the Pilecki Institute is open from 9.00 a.m. To 5.00 p.m.), the date and time of delivery will be marked on the envelope by the person receiving the envelope on behalf of the Institute,
- sent by regular mail to the address: Instytut Pileckiego, ul. Sienna 82, 00-815 Warszawa (the date of receipt of an application by the Pilecki Institute in Warsaw shall be decisive),
- sent by electronic mail to the following e-mail address: hr@instytutpileckiego.pl, with the e-mail carrying the following title: Konkurs na stanowisko Kierownika Oddziału Zamiejscowego Instytutu Solidarności i Męstwa im. Witolda Pileckiego w Berlinie (Competition for the position of Manager of the Extraneous Branch of the Witold Pilecki Institute of Solidarity and Valor in Berlin) (competition applications may be sent in by 5.00 p.m.); it is permitted to submit scans of documentation, however with the reservation of statements, which must be submitted in writing (handwritten signature or qualified signature).
- Additional information
- The competition is organized in accordance with the generally applicable provisions of Polish law, and in particular:
- the Act of 9 November 2017 on the Witold Pilecki Institute of Solidarity and Valor,
- the Civil Code,
- the Labor Code,
subject to the principles set forth in the Announcement and in Orders of the Director of the Institute:
- Order No. 72/2025, which constitutes Attachment No. 4 to the Announcement,
- Order No. 77/2025, which constitutes Attachment No. 5 to the Announcement
- The position of Manager of the Extraneous Branch of the Witold Pilecki Institute of Solidarity and Valor in Berlin shall entail office-based work at the seat of the Extraneous Branch of the Witold Pilecki Institute of Solidarity and Valor in Berlin.
- Applications submitted following expiry of the deadline will not be considered by the Competition Committee, and will be returned to their senders.
- Candidates will be notified of their admission to the competition procedure and of the place and date of any job interview via e-mail or telephone.
- The Competition Committee reserves itself the right to conduct job interviews with candidates selected in the course of the competition.
- A candidate’s failure to turn up at a designated job interview will be considered tantamount to resignation from the application procedure, regardless of the reason therefor.
- Documents and statements shall be submitted in Polish, while foreign language documents shall be translated into Polish by a sworn translator. Documents submitted in a foreign language and not translated by a sworn translator will not be considered by the Competition Committee.

[1] Prior to their official engagement, the person who will be selected through the competition for the position of Manager of the Extraneous Branch of the Witold Pilecki Institute of Solidarity and Valor in Berlin will be required to provide a certificate of no criminal record as regards intentional offenses or intentional tax offenses, a medical certificate of health confirming that there are no contraindications to their employment, and, in the event of having been awarded a diploma by a foreign university, confirmation of recognition of said diploma by the National Agency for Academic Exchange or nostrification of the diploma together with a sworn translation. Pursuant to the Regulations of the Competition and the Operating Regulations of the Awards Committee, on 1 April 2026, the Acting Director of the Pilecki Institute, Karol Madaj, appointed the Awards Committee for the 6th edition of the Witold Pilecki International Book Award. The eight-member Awards Committee includes three permanent members representing the Pilecki family, the Pilecki Institute, and the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum, as well as members appointed each time by written decision of the Director of the Institute.
