Research paper of an employee of the Pilecki Institute in a Q1-indexed journal

Dr. Tomasz Chinciński published an article in the Q1 journal Cogent Arts & Humanities on the attitudes of the German population in Poland incorporated into the Third Reich.

Associate Professor Tomasz Chinciński, a Professor of the Pilecki Institute, has published his research paper Interpreting ethnic German sentiment in Nazi-annexed Poland: a comparative analysis of underground and SS intelligence reports (1942–1944) in the international journal Cogent Arts & Humanities (Taylor & Francis), a first-quartile (Q1) academic periodical in General Arts and Humanities.

The paper analyzes the attitudes of the German populace in Polish territories incorporated into the Third Reich during the Second World War. The author compares two types of sources produced during wartime: intelligence reviews of the Polish Underground and reports drafted by the SS security apparatus. The juxtaposition of these documents allows for the presentation of both how the Polish resistance movement perceived the social situation, and the mechanisms for monitoring public sentiment employed by the various bodies of the Nazi state. The study also shows how different wartime information systems interpreted the attitudes of the German populace in the occupied territories.

The publication was prepared as part of a research project entitled Polish Germans 1939–1945. The Attitudes and Situation of Polish Citizens of German Ethnic Nationality In Lands Incorporated Into the Third Reich and In the General Government”.

The publication was financed from the state budget under the program of the Minister of Education and Science entitled “National Program for the Development of the Humanities”, project no. NPRH/DN/SN/0105/2023/12, in the amount of PLN 1,314,966.00. Total project value: PLN 1,314,966.00.
