Prof. Krzysztof Ruchniewicz appointed Director of the Pilecki Institute
Minister of Culture and National Heritage Hanna Wróblewska appointed Prof. Krzysztof Ruchniewicz Director of the Witold Pilecki Institute of Solidarity and Valor. His five-year term began on 5 November 2024.

Prof. Krzysztof Henryk Ruchniewicz is a historian of the 20th century affiliated with the University of Wrocław. He specializes in the history of Europe, Germany and Polish-German relations in the 20th century. His research interests include resistance and opposition during the Second World War and in the first postwar decade, international textbook research, public history and visual history. He is a member of numerous academic bodies both in Poland and abroad.
For the past 20 years, he has headed the Willy Brandt Center for German and European Studies, a research and education institution co-founded by the University of Wrocław and the German Academic Exchange Service (Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst). Since mid-June 2024, he has served as the Plenipotentiary of the Minister of Foreign Affairs for the Polish-German social and cross-border cooperation.
Dr. Wojciech Kozłowski, hitherto Acting Director, was appointed Deputy Director of the Pilecki Institute.
