Extermination and Resistance | Educational Materials

We have prepared another set of exercises and source materials, this time devoted to German policy toward the Jewish population during the Second World War, as well as to the Warsaw Ghetto Rising.

Prepared on the occasion of the 77th anniversary of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising, the educational package introduces students to the principles and stages of the German genocidal policy toward the Jewish population, the dramatic conditions in the Warsaw Ghetto, and the heroic struggle of the insurgents in 1943.

The set of exercises prepared by the Pilecki Institute consists of source texts, infographics, and tasks for students. The materials also include a link to the testimony of Krystyna Budnicka, who was 11 years old at the time of the outbreak of the uprising. She managed to escape from the ghetto with the help of Poles. She is currently an activist with the “Children of the Holocaust” Association.

The package also draws on testimonies and accounts from the digital resources of the Pilecki Institute: the “Chronicles of Terror “database, recordings made as part of the “Witnesses to the Age” project, as well as excerpts from the documentary film “Witnesses to the Age of Shoah”.

We also encourage you to explore other materials from the Pilecki Institute related to this topic:

  • Podcast in English – how do we remember the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising today? Does it still matter? What can we learn from the example of the heroism of the Jewish population? These are the questions we posed to Michael Schudrich, Chief Rabbi of Poland, as well as to representatives of Israeli educational institutions.
