Pilecki Institute International Teachers and Educators Program | call for participants
The Pilecki Institute is launching a pilot edition of its International Teachers and Educators Program. It will consist of two parts: a five-day online conference (August 15–19, 2020) which will be followed by a study trip to Poland.
We will be focusing on the topic of resistance to totalitarianism in 20th-century Europe in a comparative approach. We want to discuss how different people and groups stood up to Nazism and Communism during the past century, and how we can approach this subject in schools and other educational institutions. The e-learning part of the conference will take up to 4 hours each day and consist of podcasts, webinars, discussions and workshops held by the Pilecki Institute’s educators and the course participants. There will also be time for icebreaking activities and an opportunity for networking. The study trip will be organized at a later time, so that we can all be sure we are safe from the COVID virus. The institute will invite all of the participants who complete the first part of the program to visit Poland and meet in person.
Both parts of the program will be free of charge. Places are limited and preference will be given to applicants delivering a presentation.
The preliminary program of the e-learning part will be published soon.

The Witold Pilecki Institute of Solidarity and Valor and the Warsaw Rising Museum have signed a strategic trilateral cooperation agreement with ECPAD (Établissement de Communication et de Production Audiovisuelle de la Défense / Defense Communication and Audiovisual Production Center), the French military audiovisual archive based in Ivry-sur-Seine, France. The agreement gives the Polish institutions access to unique Second World War photographs previously unseen in Poland, opens access to the vast holdings of the French archive, and launches a partnership of major significance for research into Polish history.

Karol Madaj appointed Director of the Witold Pilecki Institute of Solidarity and Valor
Marta Cienkowska, the Minister of Culture and National Heritage, has appointed Karol Madaj Director of the Witold Pilecki Institute of Solidarity and Valor in Warsaw. His five-year term will begin on 30 August 2026. From 1 September 2025, Karol Madaj served as the acting director of the Pilecki Institute.

On the night of August 13–14 our websites suffered another serious hacking attack. Content bearing the hallmarks of Russian propaganda and disinformation — targeting Polish history and reinforcing anti-Ukrainian narratives — was deliberately placed on the Institute's pages devoted to Augustów, Berlin, and Warsaw.

Accountability for War Crimes. New book from Pilecki's expert
It is an expanded English-language edition of the monograph "Problem odpowiedzialności karnej za zbrodnie wojenne w pracach rządu polskiego na emigracji (1939–1945)", which in 2023 was awarded a grant under the Ministry of Science and Higher Education’s “Excellent Science II” program for the translation and open-access publication of the book abroad.
