Recap of the 5th edition of the Pilecki Institute International Teachers and Educators Program (ITEP)

This year's online conference focused on the post-war decade of 1945–1955 – a time of rebuilding devastated countries, the beginning of the Cold War, and the birth of a new international order.

For three days – April 17, 18, and 19 – teachers from 17 countries explored how to teach difficult historical topics in the classroom in a way that is responsible and sensitive to students' needs. The starting point was Poland's experience – including the fate of soldiers of the 2nd Polish Corps under General Anders and the Augustów Roundup – placed in the broader context of 20th-century history.

We would like to thank all participants, lecturers, and Pilecki Institute staff for making this edition a success. We hope that the weekend with the Pilecki Institute allowed participants to return to their schools with fresh inspiration and new tools for their work. We invite you to take part in other Pilecki Institute initiatives!
