Mitteleuropa – Consigned to History? - Instytut Pileckiego

The result of the project is the Polish edition of Friedrich Naumann’s 1915 bestselling book Mitteleuropa (Polish title: Mitteleuropa – nowy porządek w sercu Europy).

For a modern reader, Naumann’s concept of “Mitteleuropa” – understood as achieving German hegemony in the territories between the Baltic Sea, the Black Sea and the Adriatic Sea – is a fascinating example of the German elites’ thinking about our region. Referencing much earlier ideas of the German political thought, the author developed his own original approach. For years, it served as an important point of reference in the discussions held in Germany’s highest political and economic circles.
