ЖЫВЕ БЕЛАРУСЬ/Belarus Lebt! | the exhibition at the Berlin branch of the Pilecki Institute - Instytut Pileckiego

The exhibition includes works by 20 artists and a host of anonymous residents of Minsk. These include photographs and video material, sketches and posters, many of which were created while the artists sat in detention centers.

"This exhibition should be opened in Minsk, but that is currently impossible. That is why we have invited Belarusian creators who are documenting the peaceful democratic protests to our exhibition space in the heart of Berlin, beneath the Brandenburg Gate. Their voices will be heard both by Germans and by visitors to Berlin from Europe and around the world. Belarusian affairs have always been important to us; the Pilecki Institute has a scholarship program for independent Belarusian journalists and bloggers, and we also organized a large academic conference in winter dedicated to the Stalinist atrocities in Kuropaty near Minsk - an event that is for Belarusians what Katyń is for Poles," said Dr Wojciech Kozłowski, director of the Pilecki Institute.

The exhibition includes works by 20 artists and a host of anonymous residents of Minsk. These include photographs and video material, sketches and posters, many of which were created while the artists sat in detention centers. They present not only the demonstrations themselves, but also the confrontation of art and politics.

An abridged version of the exhibition can be seen at Fotofestiwal Lodz. Both events are part of Minsk's "Month of Photography", since 2014 the most important festival of photography in Belarus, and were co-organized by Instytut Adama Mickiewicza.
