Professor Titular of Humanities, and Doctor of Jurisprudence.
Employed at the Institute of European Studies of the Faculty of International and Political Studies at the Jagiellonian University and at the Center for Totalitarian Studies at the Pilecki Institute in Warsaw (Vice-Chairman of the Scientific Council). His research interests include the history of the Second World War, post-war Europe and Germany, and analyses of Polish-German relations. He researches the legal systems of totalitarian states. Recipient of scholarships from numerous foundations, including Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst/DAAD (1992–1993), Alexander von Humboldt-Stiftung (2000–2002), and the Lanckoronski Foundation. In 1996, he received a scholarship award from the Foundation for Polish Science. In agreement with the Polish and German parliaments and the University of Bonn, he conducted an internship in the offices of the German parliament/Bundestag (1996–1997). Winner of the 4th edition of the 2011 Historical Book of the Year competition, with a publication entitled “Nie umrę śmiercią naturalną…”. Janina Lech – harcerka, poetka, ofiara hitlerowskiego bezprawia oraz jej rodzina (published in 2010), which a readers’ poll named the best popular science book on Polish history in the 20th century. He has participated in numerous national and international conferences and conducted independent archival research and queries in libraries in Poland, Germany, Great Britain, and Ukraine. Awarded the Cross of Merit on the Ribbon of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany/Das Verdienstkreuz am Bande des Verdienstordens der Bundesrepublik Deutschland (2018), Medal of the Commission of National Education (2014), Gold Cross of Merit (2014), and Silver Cross of Merit (1998). Author and co-author of more than a dozen academic monographs and numerous articles.
